Final Digi-Pak (on template)

After completing the final edits that I was happy created a strong image and fitted with the image of the artist, I placed the panels/sides on a 6 panel Digi-pak to show where each side would be placed. I am happy with the final outcome, particularly with the layout of the cover page and how effective the image on the first/main CD looks. I chose to create two lyrics pages as part of the package as opposed to usinng a page for an image and another for a credits page, as i think lyrics would be more interesting as part of the package than, for example, information on album credits. I am pleased with the outcome of the Digi--Pak as i think it fits with the image of the performer that i was aiming to create.

Lyrics pages for Digi-Pak

For two pages of my Digi-pak I decided to include two lyrics pages as opposed to a single page for an image of the artist or an album credits page as I think song lyrics are a good page to have in Digi-pak for the audience buying the album especially when the album is credited on its song lyrics.

I divided the page into thirds using the last third (width length) for the image of the performer, and used the first and second sections of the page for the text; I used a bolder pink colour for the ‘Lyrics’ title heading at the top left hand side of the page and for the actual lyrics text, and used a lighter pink colour for the song titles, so it is clearer for the audience to read. I put his text over a black background, which I think looks effective as I think the pink text goes well with the image and the dark background well.

I am happy with how the two lyrics pages turned out, although I do think the text for the lyrics is slightly too small, however it fits well on the pages and is still readable.

This is my final magazine advertisement. I changed the font of the text for the artist's name header, and i also adapted the advert from my previous draft by including an image of the CD that is being advertised, and i moved the date of release text to below the image as well as moving the 'Nicola Roberts' text to the header of the page so the audienc/readers will see straight away the name of the artist.

I am pleased with the result of the advertisement and think it stands out well over all, as well as fitting with the image i have for my video and Digi-Pak.

Magazine Advert - first and second drafts

The image above my first attempt at the magazine advertisement as part of my Ancillary tasks. I am pleased with the look and the layout of the 'Nicola Roberts' 'Cinderella Eyes' and '4.04.12' texts and think they look effective. however, i felt that the top half of the page is too empty and the text looks un-efffective on it's own. Therefore i started a second draft of the advertisement (the image below) and included additional text, using varied but complimentary colours to make the advert more interesting and with more reviews, which i added additional information linking the comments to critically acclaimed reviewers. I kept the bottom half of the page the same as the first draft as i am happy with how effective and bold i think it looks.

This is my first attempt at a back page for my digi-pak. I felt that there was too much pink text which affected the proffessional look i need, and i also thought that the header/ album title looked too plain and didnt stand out, therefore on my second draft i changed the font colour for the track listing to black, keeping the text the same. I then changed the font colour of the album title to a bolder pink, and then i underlined the text to make it appear more stand out. I also added a website link adress and record label copyright text to make the text more proffesional quality.

first attempt of Magazine Advert

This is my first draft of a magazine advertisement for my ancillary task. I am happy with the image I have used as I think it draws attention to the performer’s eyes which links with the album title; however I think the blocking of the title is wrong and the different texts I have used are not bold enough so the writing is not clear and therefore looks unprofessional. I also think the use of the block rectangles behind the text and the '5 stars' at the bottom of the page look unproffessional and are not neccessary for the advertisement.

Digi-Pak’s are designed in 4 sided and 6 sided panelled packages to hold a CD package or a DVD package for sale.
6 sided Digi-pak’s are most regularly used for artists who are re-releasing an album as a deluxe edition, or for new artist’s promoting their debut album, whereas four panelled Digi-pak’s are used for regular album releases.
The sides of a 6 panel digi-pak typically include a cover page (in ‘pop’ music this conventionally includes a close up or medium shot of the artist.) as well as a back page including a track listing, and a further panel would include either a credit’s page, lyrics page or eve just a panel sized image of the artist, in addition to another side being used for a CD disc to be placed.
Whereas, whilst researching I learnt the conventions of a 4 panel digi-pak typically includes a cover panel, a back page for track listing, one side for a CD disc and one side an image of the artist.

magazine advertisements - research

here is an example of a magazine advertisement for an album release. I chose to analyse this particular advertisement as i think Florence is a similar artist in terms of image and sound to my chosen artist (Nicola Roberts) and they have a similar target audience.

= all adds to effectiveness of the advert. - simple is more effective.

Lyrics Page for Digi-pak

this is my first attempt at an inside page/lyrics page for the digi-pak, however i do not like the outcome. Although i want to have the digi-pak having a very simple look, i think there is too little decoration on the age. on my second draft i will have a different coloured font for the title, and i will also change the font colour for both the lyrics and the headings, as this peach colour does not stand out well enough in front of the purple background.

Cd Covers - Analysis.

After researching many different artists form the Pop genre and current chart album covers, i noticed one particular theme that is re-occurring on many CD covers; the artist's image is often a close up shot and very rarely is shot with below the waist line in the camera shot. I assume this is to create a connection between the artist to the audience, and allows the genre and the mood or message of the album to be conveyed through the cover image.

In addition to this I also noticed how the text used on the cover page for the album title and artists name is very often written in very simple font, as well as noticing how there is very little, if any, additional text or images/decorations added to the cover page, presumably as it conveys a simplistic feel.

The body language of the artist in the imaeg that is used on the cover of a cd package varies, and there is no majority of either eye level/eye contact with camera as opposed to a side shot with the performers direction of sight facing another way, although more recently it appears to be that most recently; forward facing and direct eye contact body language/posture is used for cover images more so than a different angle of the perfomer, such as Demi Lovato's cover image for her album unbroken.
